Gender of Nouns


The feminines of some nouns are formed in the following ways:

1. by adding -ess:

host – hostess

2. If the masculine ends in -er or -or the -er or -or is dropped before adding –ress:

tiger - tigress
actor - actress

3. Some changes are made before adding -ess :
